DETECTION DOG OPERATIONS COURSE

This course is specifically designed for civilian participants currently employed (or seeking employment) as a Detection Dog Handler. Students will receive training in high level detection dog handling skills in both narcotics and explosives odours.
Participants will receive instruction in all facets of handling a detection dog in the operational context and will gain experience in all aspects associated with detection dog handling including;
Full exposure and assessment to ensure the student is comfortable in a range of operational environments likely to be encountered by a Detection Dog.

Firearms and Explosives;
- Black Powder
- Ammonium Nitrate Fuel Oil (ANFO)
- Trinitrotoluene (TNT)
- Sodium Chlorate
- Semtex, Taggants (Icad Mandated), Smokeless Powder, RDX, PETN, TATP, HMTD
Students will also have an opportunity during the course to visit the Australian Facility for Taphonomic Experimental Research (AFTER), a live “Body Farm” which is one of only seven worldwide. Handlers will experience exclusive instruction from Australia’s foremost authority on cadaver detection research, Professor Shari Forbes.
Numbers for this course is strictly limited to six participants. This course is largely delivered by practical “one on one” instruction by former canine law enforcement dog trainers.
The units of competency delivered are:
ACMSPE304 Provide basic care of dog
ACMGAS306 Assist with conditioning of animals.
PSPBORD303 Deploy detector dog
